Sunday, August 23

As stewards of God’s words and works, it is with delight that we have the opportunity to gather as His people in worship by way of a reminder of the truth, power, and goodness of the sacred Scriptures. May we gather in His name and for His glory as we endeavor to make much of Christ through scripture, prayer, song, and the preaching of His Word. We look forward to gathering together this Lord’s day – For Christ, to God’s Glory, and Man’s Joy!

This Sunday’s Sermon

Make Every Effort | 2 Peter 1:5-11 | Kelly Abbott

Believers are to make every effort to reflect Christ’s divine nature, not by their own power but by his righteousness and divine provision, which increasingly result in the virtues in this passage. These are not steps that produce godliness, rather they evidence of change being wrought in the believer’s heart through obedience to Christ’s transforming power (2 Peter 1:3). Peter calls us to be diligent to confirm our calling and election by practicing these qualities.

Today’s Song Lyrics

All Creatures of Our God and King

Verse 1

All creatures of our God and King

Lift up your voice and with us sing

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Thou, burning sun with golden beam

Thou, silver moon with softer gleam

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluia!

Verse 2

Let all things their Creator bless

And worship Him in humbleness

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son

And praise the Spirit, Three in One!

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Verse 3

All the redeemed washed by His blood

Come and rejoice in His great love

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Christ has defeated every sin

Cast all your burdens now on Him

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Verse 4

He shall return in power to reign

Heaven and earth will join to say

O praise Him! Alleluia!

Then who shall fall on bended knee?

All creatures of our God and King

O praise Him! O praise Him!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All Praise to Him

Verse 1

All praise to Him, the God of light,

Who formed the mountains by His might.

All praise to Him who names the stars,

That sing His fame in skies afar.

All praise to Him who reigns in love,

Who guides the galaxies above,

Yet bends to hear our every prayer,

With sovereign power and tender care.

Verse 2

All praise to Him Whose love is seen

In Christ the Son, the servant King,

Who left behind His glorious throne

To pay the ransom for His own.

All praise to Him Who humbly came

To bear our sorrow, sin, and shame,

Who lived to die, Who died to rise,

The all sufficient sacrifice.

Verse 3

All praise to Him whose power imparts

The love of God within our hearts.

The Spirit of all truth and peace,

The fount of joy and holiness.

To Father, Son, and Spirit now

Our souls we lift, our wills we bow.

To You, the Triune God, we raise

With loving hearts our song of praise.

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

Verse 1

How deep the Father’s love for us?

How vast beyond all measure?

That He should give His only Son,

To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss,

The Father turns His face away

As wounds which mar the chosen One,

Bring many sons to glory.

Verse 2

Behold the Man upon a cross,

My sin upon His shoulders.

Ashamed I hear my mocking voice

Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there,

Until it was accomplished,

His dying breath has brought me life,

I know that it is finished.

Verse 3

I will not boast in anything,

No gifts, no power, no wisdom.

But I will boast in Jesus Christ,

His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?

I cannot give an answer.

But this I know with all my heart,

His wounds have paid my ransom.

Christ, Our Wisdom

Verse 1

Christ, our wisdom, we are humbled

When You hide Your ways from us;

You have purposes unnumbered,

Each one good and glorious.

Help us trust when we grow weary,

Free us from our anxious thoughts;

Give us grace to see more clearly;

You are God, and we are not.

Verse 2

Christ, our wisdom, be our gladness

When we fail to understand;

You ordain all joy and sadness

To fulfill Your perfect plan.

Help us know You rule with power

Over ev’ry raging flood;

In our most uncertain hour,

You are God, and we are loved.

Verse 3

Christ, our wisdom, we will follow

Though the way ahead is veiled;

As we journey through the shadows,

Grant us faith where sight has failed.

Help us cling to Your commandments,

Strengthened by Your faithful Word;

We will never be abandoned;

You are God, and we are Yours.

Verse 4

Christ, our wisdom, we adore You

For the beauty of the cross;

Once in foolishness we scorned You,

But Your blood has ransomed us.

Help us sing the endless mercies

Of Your humble heart to save;

Christ our wisdom, Christ our glory,

You are God, forever praised.

Yours Alone

Verse 1

Oh, what a love is this that rescues and forgives?

You suffered in our place to make us heirs of grace

You chose unworthy ones as daughters and as sons

Redeemed to be Your bride, the prize for which You died

(Chorus 1)

We are Yours alone,

Our life, our everything is Yours alone

Oh, King of mercy, make our hearts Your throne,

We are Yours alone

Verse 2

You saved us to proclaim the beauty of Your name

To make Your glory known, for we are not our own

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)

Lord, reign unrivaled, within Your people,

Your kingdom come!

Your will be done in us

Tear down our idols, we are Your temple, may all our days unfold in praise to You

Own our affections, claim our devotion, all we adore forevermore

(Chorus 2)

We are Yours alone,

Our life, our everything is Yours alone

Oh, King of mercy, make our hearts Your throne,

We are Yours alone

Our life, our everything is Yours alone

Oh, King of mercy, make our hearts Your throne,

We are Yours alone

Be Thou My Vision

Verse 1

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Verse 2

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;

Thou my great Father and I Thy true son,

Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 3

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;

Be Thou my Armor, and be Thou my Light,

Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower

Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Verse 4

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always;

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Verse 5

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
