Sunday, November 8

As stewards of God’s words and works, it is with delight that we have the opportunity to gather as His people in worship by way of a reminder of the truth, power, and goodness of the sacred Scriptures. May we gather in His name and for His glory as we endeavor to make much of Christ through scripture, prayer, song, and the preaching of His Word. We look forward to gathering together this Lord’s day – For Christ, to God’s Glory, and Man’s Joy!

This Sunday’s Sermon

Scripture’s Christ | Acts 17:1-15 | Manny Pereira

Many claim to know Christ, but which Christ? In Thessalonica, Paul opened the Scriptures to show that the Christ had to suffer and rise, a divine necessity hidden in the prophets and fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. Some Jews heard the claim and refused Him, clinging to a Messiah of their own making. In Berea others received the word eagerly and searched the Scriptures daily, letting God’s Word govern their trust and hope. The same Christ was revealed, rejected, and received. A Christ of our own fancy cannot save; only Scripture’s Christ can.

Membership Focus

Our Fellowship in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The church is Christ’s precious possession; this is who she is by divine proclamation (1 Pet 2:9). As saints, saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we should love the church—Christ’s church—for what is precious to Christ should be precious to us. The church is not a building, a place, or an object; it is the people of God, redeemed in Christ, and “called out” to bear witness to Jesus Christ in this world. On the basis of a biblical conviction toward unity and mutual accountability in the local body of Christ (cf. Acts 2:42; 20:17–28; Rom 12; 1 Cor 12; Eph 4; etc.), we affirm that these principles are best exercised through local church membership. Learn more about TBC Membership.

Today’s Song Lyrics

Come, Thou Almighty King

Verse 1

Come, Thou Almighty King.

Help us Thy name to sing.

Help us to praise.

Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,

Come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

Verse 2

Come, Thou incarnate Word,

Gird on Thy mighty sword.

Our prayer attend:

Come, and Thy people bless,

And give Thy word success;

Spirit of holiness, on us descend.

(Chorus)

All glory be to the Father,

All glory be to the Son,

All glory be to the Spirit,

The Blessed Three in One.

Verse 3

Come, Holy Comforter,

Thy sacred witness bear.

In this glad hour:

Thou who Almighty art,

Now rule in every heart

And ne’er from us depart,

Spirit of power.

Verse 4

To Thee, great One in Three,

Eternal praises be

Hence evermore.

Thy sovereign majesty

May we in glory see,

And to eternity love and adore.

Only A Holy God

Verse 1

Who else commands all the hosts of heaven?

Who else could make every king bow down?

Who else can whisper and darkness trembles?

Only a Holy God

Verse 2

What other beauty demands such praises?

What other splendor outshines the sun?

What other majesty rules with justice?

Only a Holy God

(Chorus)

Come and behold Him,

The One and the Only.

Cry out, sing holy,

Forever a Holy God;

Come and worship the Holy God.

Verse 3

What other glory consumes like fire?

What other power can raise the dead?

What other name remains undefeated?

Only a Holy God.

(Repeat Chorus)

Verse 4

Who else could rescue me from my failing?

Who else could offer His only Son?

Who else invites me to call Him Father?

Only a Holy God. Only my Holy God!

(Repeat Chorus)

I Will Wait for You (Psalm 130)

Verse 1

Out of the depths I cry to You,

In darkest places, I will call;

Incline Your ear to me anew,

And hear my cry for mercy, Lord.

Verse 2

Were You to count my sinful ways,

How could I come before Your throne?

Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze;

I stand redeemed by grace alone.

(Chorus)

I will wait for You, I will wait for You

On Your Word I will rely.

I will wait for You, surely wait for You,

Till my soul is satisfied.

Verse 3

So put your hope in God alone;

Take courage in His power to save,

Completely and forever won

By Christ, emerging from the grave.

(Repeat Chorus)

Verse 4

Now He has come to make a way,

And God Himself has paid the price,

That all who trust in Him today

Find healing in His sacrifice;

That all who trust in Him today

Find healing in His sacrifice.

(Repeat Chorus)

(Chorus 2)

I will wait for You, I will wait for You,

Through the storm and through the night.

I will wait for You, surely wait for You,

For Your love is my delight.

There Is One Gospel

Verse 1

There is one Gospel on which I stand

For all eternity

It is my story, my Father’s plan

The Son has rescued me

Oh what a Gospel, Oh what a peace

My highest joy and my deepest need

Now and forever He is my light

I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 2

There is one Gospel to which I cling

All else I count as loss

For there, where justice and mercy meet

He saved me on the cross

No more I boast in what I can bring

No more I carry the weight of sin

For He has brought me from death to life

I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 3

There is one Gospel where hope is found

The empty tomb still speaks

For death could not keep my Savior down

He lives and I am free

Now on my Savior, I fix my eyes

My life is His and His hope is mine!

For He has promised I, too will rise

I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 4

And in this Gospel the church is one

We do not walk alone

We have His Spirit as we press on

To lead us safely home

And when in glory still I will sing

Of this old story that rescued me

Praise to my Savior, the King of life

I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Speak, O Lord

Verse 1

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You

To receive the food of Your Holy Word.

Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;

Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,

That the light of Christ might be seen today

In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.

Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us

All Your purposes for Your glory.

Verse 2

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,

Holy reverence, true humility;

Test our thoughts and our attitudes

In the radiance of Your purity.

Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see

Your majestic love and authority.

Words of pow'r that can never fail

Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Verse 3

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;

Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us

Truths unchanged from the dawn of time

That will echo down through eternity.

And by grace we'll stand on Your promises,

And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us.

Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built

And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Your Word Endures

Verse 1

Your Word, O God, endures, unbound and never-changing

Your promises are sure, Your purposes unfailing

You speak and earth and heaven shake,

Oceans roar, stars awake

Verse 2

Your Word, O God, endures, it binds the broken-hearted

With riches for the poor and light for those in darkness

You speak and free the captive slave,

Dead are raised from the grave

(Chorus 1)

Your word is forever, holds all things together

Your heart revealed with mercy unreserved

Your Word, O God, endures

Verse 3

Your Word, O God, endures, revealing Your salvation

It sanctifies Your church through every generation

You speak and we behold Your Son,

Word made flesh, God with us

(Chorus 2)

Your word is forever, holds all things together

Your heart revealed with mercy unreserved

Your word is forever, our joy and our treasure

Your matchless works and wisdom seen and heard

Your Word, O God, endures
