The Idolatry of Sin

All sin may be classified as idolatry. Our problem with sin is really a problem with idolatry, the valuing of me-centered pleasure over the valuing of God-centered pleasure. Sin is the idolatry of self. It is the act of those who delight in themselves rather than delight themselves in God. Colossians 3 opens with this principle: (a) that which belongs to a me-centered gratification must be denied; (b) that which belongs to a God-centered gratification must be developed. This message considers sin in its practical light, seeking to understand the idolatry of sin by its example, nature, and consequences.
