"It Is Finished!"

The cross did not happen to Christ—it was the instrument that He used to conquer death. In no place does the glory of Christ shine more brightly than in the apex of glorifying the Father while achieving atonement for sinners. The cross is portrayed by John as a stage of exaltation to Christ, not just as a means. In the very depths of His humiliation, Christ was exalted. This clearly exceeds all natural perception and reveals a perspective that is uniquely divine, being intensely paradoxical. Here, this is demonstrated as Jesus dies with the cry of the victory on His lips.
